two quick questions...
1) Will GW still be supported by NCsoft after GW 2 is released?
2) Is this game playable with a slow connection speed? Thank you for your reply it is greatly appreciated! |

1) Who knows. I kind of doubt it. They barely support it now.
2) I know a few people that play successfully on dial-up. |

1) Anet has said they will continue to operate the GW1 servers for as long as there is a player base. However, as noted above "support" is an ambiguous term here. The past year has seen the Live Team fall farther and farther behind on even the small amount of promises they've made. The XTH has been down for seven months, the quarterly content additions happened less than expected by the player base and skill balancing has been relegated to the extreme back-burner of once every 2 months (down from once a week not so long ago) and even those don't seem to happen on time any more. In short, anet doesn't seem willing to put much effort into a game where they've already gotten the lion's share of the profits they can expect.
2) Yes, I've had several alliance memeber who played effectively with dial-up. You will have some horrible downloads when first entering a zone or campaign though. With dial-up these downloads may be enough that you get totally left behind by any of your human team members, so make sure to download things all on your own first. Good hunting. |

Speaking as a player who is stuck on dial-up; Yes you can play on slow connections. I have played at connections as slow as 24kbps. The only real times I have had issues is around holidays/events and Z-bounty/mission towns/outposts.
Best advice I can give to anyone on slow connections is to avoid popular districts and pre-load maps whenever you can. |

i used to have to play on dial up too. even if i had already preloaded the maps, i still had problems sometimes with the maps taking 30 minutes to load. however, it was fine once i got into the game - there was little lag, except around holiday events, as others have pointed out. i recommend that you stay in international districts whenever possible (fewer people for me meant less lag)

I used to play on 56k dialup, its not too bad. It's a latency of about 0.4-0.6 seconds, which isn't terrible unless I'm trying to interrupt. Now I don't what exactly you meant by 'slow connection speed', but assuming dial-up there will be two big things to worry about:
1) downloading the game might take a LONG time, but after that's done things should go pretty smoothly 2) you will not be able to use VOIP (again, this may depend on what exactly your connection is) - Ventrilo is used by alot of guilds and is a very useful tool for any organized activity, and almost mandatory if you're trying to get into higher end PvP |
